At the heart of Amcor’s Belgian headquarters, a new 2,000 m² courtyard garden creates a green and immersive landscape for employees and visitors. Conceived as a natural garden rather than a formal corporate landscape, the design brings biodiversity, seasonal change and a strong experience of nature into the everyday working environment. A rich and layered planting scheme forms the basis of the garden. Trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials and groundcovers are carefully combined to create a landscape that evolves throughout the seasons, while providing food and shelter for birds, butterflies and other pollinators. The planting is designed to appear spontaneous and natural, yet is robust and low-maintenance, ensuring a lasting landscape with limited intervention.
A gently meandering path forms the backbone of the garden, inviting people to wander through the vegetation and experience the landscape from within. Along the path, movable chairs and tables allow for informal meetings, lunch breaks or moments of retreat, giving users the freedom to appropriate the garden in different ways throughout the day. The landscape extends beyond the ground plane. The façades surrounding the courtyard are gradually integrated into the garden through climbing vegetation, softening the architecture and strengthening the sense of being immersed in a continuous green environment.
Together, these interventions transform the courtyard into a living landscape: an informal and inviting place where workplace, nature and biodiversity come together, and where seasonal change becomes part of the daily experience at Amcor.
