The design team comprising GAFPA, RE-ST and Kollektif has joined forces to develop an integrated vision for the future of the Schaarbeeklei East area and the iconic Renault site.

At the heart of the approach is a comprehensive programmatic study that respects the historical significance of the Renault complex while transforming the site into a vibrant, mixed-use urban environment. Through a carefully considered transformation strategy, the team seeks to strike a balance between preserving the site's industrial heritage and responding to contemporary urban needs.

A strong emphasis is placed on climate resilience. By reducing paved surfaces, enhancing green infrastructure, and reintegrating the Woluwe into the site, the masterplan aims to create a more adaptive and future-proof urban landscape.

To ensure broad support and a shared vision, the team will maintain an active dialogue with stakeholders and private landowners throughout the process. The vision will also be closely aligned with relevant policy initiatives, including the Vilvoorde Mobility Plan and the strategic Leve(n)de Woluwe project.

Together, these ambitions lay the foundation for a feasible, inspiring transformation that reconnects Schaarbeeklei East with the city and its communities.
